Steamboating on the Missouri & Osage Rivers
Information on the steamboats plying the waters of the Missouri River through the eyes of Phillip E. Chappell of Callaway County; boy, riverboat pilot, boat line owner/operator, Jefferson City Mayor, State Treasurer, and successful banker. Mr. Chappell grew up on the Missouri River around Chappell's Landing, three miles east of the Jefferson City Bridge. He provides us with a unique view of steamboating on the Missouri River in his book 'History of Steamboating on the Missouri River', one of two definitive works documenting this period of time in our history. A look at the steamboats and maps showing steamboat landings along the banks of the Missouri River and extractions of those maps presenting steamboat landings and steamboat wrecks in modern online maps.
